Mini pies in a jar - how cool is that? I love these mini pies! They make a great anytime gift, awesome for dinner parties and you can even freeze them for later!
Jar Mini Pies
You will need:
- A dozen 4 oz jelly jars
- Pie Crust
- Favorite Pie Filling
Instructions:
- Put filling in to about 3/4ths of an inch below the top. This way you'll have enough room to put the top layer of crust on and press the edges together.
- Place top on your mini pie and make sure you put at least 2 hole design on the top layer to avoid volcano effect.
- Fold over and crimp the edges as best you can, it's pretty difficult in such a small jar.
- Place on cookie sheet. You may want to use a silicone mat to keep them from sliding. Please note they will SLIDE on tray so please be careful.
- Bake at 350 degrees until the bottom of the crust is browning, an advantage of baking in a glass container. The top may bubble up . . . but is very cute.
- Putting a Silpat on your baking sheet keeps the little jars from sliding around when you remove them from the oven
Macaroni tip: Cherry held up better than apple as a filling with enough flavor to stand out in such a small amount.
Tasty!
