Looking for family-friendly ways to splash, play and stay cool this summer? Splash pads and water play fountains are a fun and free way for kids of all ages to enjoy the outdoors, burn off energy and make lasting summer memories.

Whether you're planning a park day, meeting friends for a playdate or simply looking for ways to beat the heat, splash pads and fountains are a great way to enjoy family time during the summer months. Most local splash pads open seasonally around Memorial Day weekend and operate throughout the summer.

Below you'll find splash pads, water play areas and spray fountains in Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Agoura Hills, Malibu, Calabasas, Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Simi Valley and surrounding areas to help you Find Your Family Fun® all summer long!

Most splash pads are located in local parks and are free to use, making them an easy and affordable way to enjoy summer family fun. Many also offer nearby playgrounds, picnic areas and open space, making them great spots for playdates, picnics, birthday celebrations and family get-togethers.

If your kids are anything like mine, they'll want to stay for hours! Pack snacks or lunch, bring plenty of water and plan ahead so everyone can make the most of their day.

👉 Splash Pad tips:

• 🩴 Wear water-friendly shoes: Concrete and rubber surfaces can get very hot and may burn little feet
• ⛱️ Bring shade if you can: Shade can be limited, especially midday, and benches fill up quickly. A pop-up shade, umbrella, blanket or chairs can make a big difference
• 🥤Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water for both kids and adults
• ⌚Go later in the day if possible: Late afternoon visits can help you avoid peak crowds and intense sun
• ⚠️ Safety reminder: Water shoes, Crocks or sandals are recommended since surfaces can heat up quickly
• 🚫 Don't Drink the water: Splash pad water is typically recycled and not intended for drinking

💦 Oak Park Splash Pad

📍 Oak Canyon Community Park: 5600 Hollytree Drive, Oak Park

Located next to the tot playground, this splash pad is a great full-day summer stop. Expect kids to get soaked, so towels, snacks, and water are a must.

There are benches and a few picnic tables nearby, though they can fill up quickly. A blanket or chairs is helpful, and there’s plenty of grassy space for seating. Shade is limited, so consider bringing your own. Watch for bees during warmer days.

The larger playground is across the walkway and down the stairs from the tot lot. Nearby, you’ll also find shaded picnic pavilions and BBQ areas, making this a great spot for before or after water play.

👉 FYI: The splash pad runs on a timer system. Water cycles through the features and shuts off automatically. Kids can restart it by activating the sensor on the blue pedestal near the edge of the play area - see image above.

💦 Simi Valley Splash Pad

📍 Rancho Tapo Community Park - AKA Lemon Park: 3700 Avenida Simi, Simi Valley

This splash pad is located near the playground and is another great stop for summer water fun. Expect a full soak and plan accordingly with towels and snacks.

Park amenities include tot lots, BBQs, bocce ball, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, fitness equipment, and multiple picnic areas (covered and uncovered). There is also a separate pre-teen play area.

🎖️ The park is also home to Veteran’s Plaza, featuring a reflective pool, fountains, and memorial elements honoring those who have served.

Virginia Avenue Park is a community hub in Santa Monica’s Pico Neighborhood featuring playgrounds, and splash pads for kids to enjoy. Families will also find picnic areas, open space and a weekly farmers market, making it a great stop for active play and community fun.

The Beach House in Santa Monica is a unique beachfront destination with beautiful ocean views, offering something for the whole family. Kids can enjoy the splash pad and playground, while families can relax in open seating areas right by the beach. In the summer, the historic pool is also open for a swim, making it a great spot to cool off and spend the day by the coast. With beach courts, fields, a café and frequent community events, it’s an easy place to linger and enjoy a full day of coastal fun.

💦 Jonny D. Wallis Neighborhood Park Splash Pad

📍 170 S. Kellogg Avenue, Goleta

🆕 New for Summer 2026! This recently opened splash pad gives families another place to splash and play this summer. Located in the heart of Old Town Goleta, the park also offers picnic areas, pickleball and bocce ball courts, a skatepark, multipurpose field and plenty of room for family fun.

Interactive fountains are another fun way for kids to splash, play and cool off. Found at local shopping centers, many are open year-round during regular shopping center hours.

Bring a towel or change of clothes - if your kids are anything like mine, they'll find a way to get completely soaked. On hot days, they may even dry off before it's time to leave!
