Don't worry too much about the science and facts when they're little - it's far more interesting to hear what they think and why!
My kids get super excited about outer space, especially when we get to look up and watch a rocket launch from Vandenberg, especially when it's a SpaceX mission. Those launches have inspired us to nurture their curiosity with fun and engaging space-themed art projects we can enjoy together at home.

Don’t worry so much about the actual science and facts when they're little - it’s far more interesting to hear what they think and why!
My kids get supper excited about outer space especially when we can look up and watch the launch of SpaceX rocket ships from Vandenburg quite regularly. I have tried to nurture that interest in kids by finding fun and engaging art projects to work on together at home.
Here are three fun space-themed art projects to make with your kids:

🚀 Soda Bottle Rocket Ship
What you need:
- Empty, clean plastic soda bottle
- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Star stickers
- Construction paper - red, orange, yellow, or any of your child's choice
- Tacky glue
Directions:
- Peel off the label from the plastic bottle.
- Paint the entire outside of the plastic bottle in your child's color of choice and allow it to dry completely.
- Decorate the rocket ship with stickers and cut out red, orange, and yellow construction paper in to flames and glue them to the bottom of the bottle.
- Once everything is dry, blast your rocket ship off on an imaginary space adventure or hang it from the ceiling as a fun decoration.

🎨 Splatter Paint Galaxy
What you need:
- Black canvas - you can paint a white canvas black using acrylic paint
- Neon paint colors, silver, gold, and white
- Paintbrush
- A garbage bag or washable mat to reduces mess
Directions:
- Prepare your black canvas and set up your workspace. We like doing this project outside, but you can also protect your work surface with a garbage bag or washable mat.
- Dip your paintbrush into the white paint first. Dribble or flick the paint onto the canvas, Jackson Pollock-style, to create stars.
- Continue adding the remaining colors the same way until you're happy with your galaxy.
For a little extra sparkle, sprinkle on some glitter before the paint dries.

🌎 Earth Squish Painting
What you need:
- Blue, green, gold, and / or brown paint
- A recycled plastic lid - large yogurt container lid works great!
- Or an old muffin tin to make several planets at once
- White paper or canvas
Directions:
- Squirt small amounts of blue, green, gold, and / or brown paint onto the outside of the plastic lid or the bottom of an upside-down muffin tin.
- Turn the lid or muffin tin over onto your paper or canvas and gently press it down. Twist it slightly to swirl and blend the colors.
Carefully lift the lid or muffin tin to reveal your very own Earth - or an imaginary planet!
Macaroni Tip: If you’re using the muffin tray, you may want to use red and yellow as well to make a variety of different planets.
